About
Primary Place Online grew out of a radio series from New Hampshire Public Radio. Back in November 2006, NHPR decided to follow the town of Exeter throughout the primary season. That series is called, not too surprisingly, “Primary Place”. Our reports are carried both on NHPR and nationally on NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday program.
The idea behind Primary Place Online is simple. New Hampshire voters get many chances to see the candidates in person. Voters in places like California, Missouri and New York do not. The web has now given us a way for the citizens of New Hampshire to share the unique advantages of living in this state with voters everywhere.
Voters outside of Exeter will be able to post comments and pose questions that they hope Exeter voters will put to the candidates.
If you’re wondering why only Exeter residents are able to post their reports on how the candidates come across, there are several reasons but the main one is TRUST. Trust is a rare quality on the web. We want PPO to reflect the views of actual New Hampshire residents and we make the promise that we have personally confirmed that every person who signs up with PPO is who they say they are. Our staff is tiny and the only way we could make the job manageable and live up to our promise was to limit the number of people who could participate. Exeter has more than 10,000 voters. That seemed like a big enough job to tackle.
