More about Richardson
In my previous comments about Bill Richardson's talk with Exeter voters on Saturday night, I left out three important things he said, so I add them here:
Richardson does NOT support gun control. This is a very disturbing part of his overall "platform". He is a hunter from a western state, and he does want gun owners to be licensed and therefore tracked. But he didn't address the availability of machineguns, etc.
The governor does support continued separation of church and state, and will not wear his Catholicism on his sleeve nor talk about the private issue of prayer in a political setting. He did not, however, address faith-based initiatives, which have gotten much attention from the Bush administration.
As a feminist, of course I applauded loudly when Richardson said, "We need to have an Equal Rights Amendment"! THe ERA failed once, but has been reintroduced in Congress, and I am glad to hear it getting his support. He also supports pay equity and women's reproductive rights.
I have already posted a longer comment on the Governor's Saturday appearance, and needed to add these because they are important parts of his lengthy, impressive resume.
