Edwards Exceeded My Expectations

It is one thing to read where the candidates stand on various issues, and another to see them speak. And I must say, I was very impressed by John Edwards and the level of passion he brought to his town hall talk. I especially admired his aggression in attacking all the failures of the Bush administration - the corruption, the erosion of due process, the evisceration of balance of power, the domination of Washington by the lobbyists, the failure of No Child Left Behind and more. All in all, he seemed a lot more presidential than I was expecting - and he sounded a lot more radical.

I realize that it shows lack of political backbone on my part, but I still feel unwilling to jump wholeheartedly on his bandwagon because he is not farther ahead in the pack of Democratic hopefuls. I realize that makes no sense, but I am still more committed to Obama. But Edwards's speech definitely has me wondering about the wisdom of my choice.

Another thing worth noting is that there were far more families, many with small kids, in attendance at his town hall meeting than there were at Giuliani's, where gray-haired elders were more the norm.
