Obama and Oprah
Last night, I traveled down to Manchester with the Phillips Exeter Democrats to see Oprabama. As an avid supporter of the Senator, I have paid close attention to his campaign and have attended many of his events. Nonetheless, last night was no ordinary political occasion as the Senator reinforced once again that he is the best choice for NH voters and our nation.
Speaking in front of 8,500 people, Oprah set the stage by declaring an end to the partisanship which has torn apart our nation and a promise of change led by Obama. With Congressmen Hodes and Porter as well as Governor Lynch in attendance, Obama and Oprah electrified the already ecstatic audience and gave them not a free car, but hope for a new and better tomorrow. Running on what MLK called the “fierce urgency of now,” Obama brought the capacity crowd to its feet by proclaiming ...
“I know that the only reason I am standing here today, the only reason that Oprah Winfrey is here, the only reason that Michelle Obama is here… is because somebody somewhere stood up when it was risky, they stood up when it was hard, they stood up when it was unpopular. They stood up so women could have the right to vote, they stood up so unions could have the right to organize, they stood up so African-Americans could have a seat at the table, they stood up to bring an end to unjust wars… That’s what we need to do right now, we need to stand up for America, stand up for equality, stand up for justice, and stand up for our children. That’s why I’m running. That’s why you’re here. Let’s take back America."
With less than one month until the primary, he inspired us once again to claim this moment, for in his words, "Our moment is now."
