My Final Scorecard
To all of you Repbulican, Democrat and Independant voters sitting out there, this the night before the Primary and I am down to two candidates, Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani. My wife has it simple, she's decided on Mike Huckabee. Tomorrow in the voting booth is when I will probably decide, like most New Hampshire voters.
It's been a tough primary year. As a moderate/independant who became the Exeter Republican Town Chairman by default, it has been an eye opener of the political process. But from what I've been told, this election has been far worse than the previous ones. Special interest money, campaigns and volunteers have flooded our town and state with "bipartisan" messages. An example being our local liberal paper giving the the SEIU, a healthcare workers union, the front page of our Sunday Opinion page to tell us who we should vote for. Definately not bipartisan. Definately not New Hampshire! Retail politics still survived despite the interference. Talking face to face with the next president was our priviledge, no matter whom it will be. We have taken our civic responsibility to heart and done our job. After tomorrow, it will be your turn.
As just a single voter involved in Primary Place over these past months, seeing nearly every candidate either in person at least once or on the continous nightly news coverage here, let me give you my final impressions/insight to help you in choosing a candidate in your upcoming primary.
First things first, Despite all of the talk about "moderates", there is only one, John McCain. He's not Conservative, he leans Liberal. The rest of the candidates are either Conservative or Liberal Socialist.
Now Decide:
If you want government(other people) to take care" of you, solve your problems, pay for your mistakes, vote for a Democrat candidate. All of these candidates are "progressives" (socialists). Each is proposing to solve the problems caused by the introduction/mandating of partial socialism into healthcare, education, etc., with even more extreme socialism.
If you want government to provide only for national security, basic individual freedoms, enforce the rule of law, and then let you take personal responsibility for your life, future and family, vote for one of the Republican Candidates.
Now, my personal impressions of the Candidates:
Democrats:
Edwards-Socialist. Slick, running a campaign for the "common man". In person, soft spoken snake oil salesman. May understand people's feelings, but not national security or the economy.
Clinton-Socialist/Pragmatic. Not moderate. Intelligent. Power Driven. Understands economic/social impacts but doesn't care as they will not effect her or her friends personally. Constantly changing position but denies doing so at the same time.
Obama-Socialist, caring, compassionate. But not JFK! JFK said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." Obama's message? Who's your Daddy? Translation-the bad people in Washington are the reason for your pain. vote for me ("change") and I will kiss it and make it better. Naive on national security-does he really think he can talk a guy with a bomb strapped to his chest into changing his mind and playing nice?
Richardson-Neville Chamberlain-thinks he can talk everyone into doing anything he wants. He calls it diplomacy, I call it appeasement. I call it distorted. Look into the so called Peace Prize nominations. He "successfully" negotiated with muslin terrorists to free hostages, by giving them military equipment! He "successfully" negotiated with the North Koreans for nuclear suspension without verification! Those both worked out well didn't they?
Kucinich-Extreme Socialist. Sees ALIENS! Enough said.
Republicans:
Fred Thompson-Conservative, rational, thoughtfull. Just wish he had the energy to do the job.
Duncan Hunter-Same as Thompson, just wish some else knew who he was so he could win.
Tom Tancredo-Great on Immigration! Wish he and Duncan Hunter could both get a TV show.
John McCain-I supported him the last time. Great understanding regarding National Security and the War. Not the same man though. Not fiscally conservative, not socially conservative. Not up to the fight anymore, be it over our freedoms or our ideals, nor with our enemies, both foreign or domestic. Incremental socialism is OK with him. Amesty is OK with him, he'll just wait for the fence.
Ron Paul-Conservative, Libertarian. I would support him if this was the year 1923! Great constitutional perspective, just lost track of time and technological changes and their effects on the world.
Finally, Rudy and Mitt.
Rudy for Fiscal conservatism and National Security/Islamofacism.
Mitt for Fiscal conservatism and National Security/Immigration.
Which one to choose? I'll know tommorow. At least you have a few weeks to decide! God Bless all of you who have visited this website, our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines wherever they may be, and God Bless America!
